Re-Surfacing Island Road

If you have driven down Island Road any time soon you know just how bad it is.  It has almost got to the point where I drive more-so in the middle of the road in areas where it gets so bad.  I have also been hearing more complaints from residents that have to drive down this road on a daily basis.

The next question that must be asked is do you want a full repave with asphalt or would you rather tear up the current road and start from scratch again.  Obviously one is much more costly but will last much longer.  Also I would assume they may close down a few parts of the road during construction.

In the end I am no DOT expert just a concerned citizen trying to start a discussion.

We bought our camp from my sister. Also in the past I have lived on the Island as well as my sister and bro in law. She said she has never seen it redone only patched. It would be great to see it in better shape. Only problem is people drive way to fast now, hmmmm would new make them drive even faster and add alcohol to the mix, Something to consider??!!

    Mr. Leon,

Currently, a project to overlay six miles of La. 413 in this area is scheduled to be let for construction for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. We are actively pursuing funding for the route, and if additional funding becomes available sooner, we may be able to complete a project at an earlier date. Until then, we will continue to maintain the route to the best of our ability with current maintenance resources.

    Sincerely,

    Lauren Lee
